Snoring: Redundant parapharyngeal  tissue reduces the size of the posterior airway, which increases the chance of obstruction during sleep. An elongated soft palate and enlarged uvula may further compromise the airway. Snoring is often associated with a sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Not all snorers have OSA, but it must be evaluated by your primary doctor. Fotona’s NightLase®* therapy is a treatment targeted at snoring only

Fotona’s NightLase®* therapy is a fast, patient-friendly and practically non-invasive treatment for snoring. It reduces snoring intensity with a gentle laser light treatment. It also can be used to help treat sleep apnea for patients who can’t tolerate CPAP or oral devices.  NightLase can reduce the effects of and decrease the amplitude of snoring by means of a gentle laser treatment of the mucosa tissue. There is no anesthesia needed for this procedure.

Fotona’s patented laser modality optimizes the length of laser pulses, allowing for the safe penetration of heat into the oral mucosa tissue. It is gentle enough to be used on the sensitive tissue inside the mouth, but strong enough to provide clinically efficacious heating. The heat generated by the Nd:YAG and Er:YAG lasers during the NightLase® therapy induces collagen contraction and neocollagenesis, resulting in a tightening of the soft palate and surrounding tissues. This causes a rise of the soft palate and a tightening of the tissues of the oropharynx. Because it is a non ablative, the mucosa remains intact, which reduces the possibility of complications. The treatment may be classified as conservative. Patient compliance is not an issue, however, patient selection is important. If the obstruction is not located in the oropharynx, the treatment will not be effective. As with any treatment, there are potential risks with laser treatment. However, the risks are minimal and certainly less than alternative therapies if the protocol is followed correctly. The NightLase® therapy is not a permanent alteration; it lasts anywhere from 6-12 months and is easily touched up at follow up appointments
